Meghalaya is considered as the wettest region of India, recording an average of 12000 mm of rain very year. The town of Sohra in Cherrapunji in South of capital Shillong holds the world record for most rain in calender month and the village in Sohra known as Mawsynram holds the record for the most rain in a year. About 70% of the state is forested. Meghalaya has alot of rivers which are mainly seasonal and rainfed.
Christianity is the major religion of Meghalaya. Meghalaya is one of the three states in India which has the christian majority.
