Meghalaya is among the states of Northeast India which is also known as the "abode of clouds" . The capital of Meghalaya is Shillong which is popularly known as "SCOTLAND OF EAST". Before Meghalaya was a part of Assam ,later on the districts of Khasi, Garo and Jaintia hills became the new state of Meghalaya. English is the official launguage of Meghalaya, but people there also speak Khasi, Garo, Pnar and Biate. 

Meghalaya is considered as the wettest region of India, recording an average of 12000 mm of rain very year. The town of Sohra in Cherrapunji in South of capital Shillong holds the world record for most rain in calender month and the village in Sohra known as Mawsynram holds the record for the most rain in a year. About 70% of the state is forested. Meghalaya has alot of rivers which are mainly seasonal and rainfed. 

Christianity is the major religion of Meghalaya. Meghalaya is one of the three states in India which has the christian majority. 
Meghalaya schools are run by the State Government or by Private organistaions.
